Why Garmoran?

I have been asked why my website uses the name “Garmoran”. The quick answer is that we chose this name as our kennel name or “affix” when we bred our first litter of puppies. This meant that each puppy was named by using Garmoran first and then adding their own individual name. So far we have registered just eleven puppies with this affix and the names we chose have all had a connection to stars or galaxies.

But why Garmoran for our affix? Garmoran is an area of Western Scotland which includes the most westerly point of mainland Scotland - the Ardnamurchan peninsula. Garmoran also includes the Small Isles, Knoydart, Morar and Moidart. We discovered this beautiful area when we rented a holiday property there. We explored the remote beaches, the sea lochs and the mystical Castle Tioram and enjoyed some beautiful seafood and venison. We returned on two further occasions and thought the name Garmoran would be appropriate combining our Scottish heritage and the memories of wonderful holidays.

We stayed in superb self catering accommodation with stunning views over Beinn Resipol. Their website is www.garmoransquare.co.uk and although it’s quite an isolated spot we can highly recommend it.
